h6. {anchor:Q1. What is My Sun Connection?} Q1. What is My Sun Connection?

A.  My Sun Connection is a portal venue, available to all sun.com users. It delivers a one stop aggregated view of your  online relationship with Sun. Using My Sun Connection, you can
* Access and update your account and profile information
* Access information about products you are interested in
* Find practical advice for optimizing Sun products
* Track your download history
* Access Sun Partner Advantage Program benefits (Channel Partners only)
* Get training information
* View Sun Developer Network member benefits, news and community feeds
* Create your own portal view using My Tab

Access to the My Sun Connection portal is conveniently available via a link from any sun.com web page (the link is located in the web page masthead under Log In). 

*What you need to know:*

We upgraded the  portal to provide you with new features and functionality.  This upgrade will be done in phases. In this early  phase you can expect to see a completely new design, an improved portal experience and a personal tab that can be configured based on your personal preferences.

A.We enhanced the login page to give you a sneak preview of what is inside. Mouse over the small windows in the welcome portlet to view.

A. The dock is a new navigation and administration area on the portal.  You must be logged in to access the dock. The dock is located in the upper right hand corner of the page and appears when you mouse over your name.

When you are on any tab other than My Tab you will see dock links to Manage My Account, Help, and Log Out.

When you are on My Tab you will see additional dock links called Add Content and Edit Layout. The Add Content link takes you to an Add Content panel that populates on the left hand side of the page. Here, you can select portlets and add (or drag and drop) them on to your My Tab.

The Edit Layout link displays options for page layout on your  My Tab. Any changes made to the content on your My Tab will only be visible to you.  All of the portlets on your My Tab are configurable.

A. The My Tab is a new personal tab available to all users of the portal.  The content and layout on this tab can be reconfigured based on your personal preferences. Upon initial login, you will see a set of default portlets populated on your My Tab. *{_}You{_}* *{_}can remove, move, collapse, edit "look and feel" and edit configuration or rename of any portlet on this page. You can also add content to this page from the Add Content link in the dock._*

A. The Add Content panel is presented to you when you click the Add Content link in the Dock. This panel is the Content Management System for your My Tab. You can search for available content and drag a portlets to place them on your  My Tab.

The number of items that are available in this panel will increase moving forward.

A. If you want to change your account or profile information you can do so on the portal via the Manage My Account link in the dock. Please note any changes you make to your profile information will apply to any sun on line application in production.

Solaris 10 on X86
Liferay version 5.0.1 (Liferay open source enterprise portal and collaboration software)
Glassfish Application Server
MySQL5 Data Base

A. The Google Gadgets menu option in the Add Content panel allows you to add a Google Gadget portlet to your My Tab. Google gadgets are miniture objects created by Google users. They are powered and available on the Google website and can be added to your My Tab page. Click on the add link in the Add Content panel to add a Google Gadget portlet to your My Tab. The default content presented in the Google Gadget portlet is YouTube Videos.

If you want to configure this portlet and show a different gadget in place of the YouTube videos, click on the configuration icon (gear wheel) in the top right hand corner of the Google Gadget portlet. You can specify which gadget you want to see in the portlet by inserting a gadget URL, searching for gadgets or you can select a gadget from the options presented.

If you want to put additional gadgets on your My Tab just click on the add link in the Add Content panel. Add the Google Gadget portlet to your My Tab and configure it.

*Please note:* Google Gadgets are third-party applets collected and made available by Google for embedding in webpages.

A. The RSS Reader menu option in the Add Content panel allows you to add an RSS Reader to your My Tab. Click on the add link. The default content presented can be edited.

If you want to show different content in place of the existing default feeds, click on the configuration icon (gear wheel) in the top right hand corner of the RSS reader portlet. This allows you to configure the RSS reader and add your own feeds. You can also put additional feeds in this reader by clicking on the Add icon. Don't forget to click Save when you are done.
