The search base DN is an element of the [search request protocol op|Definition -- LDAP Search Operation] that works in conjunction with the [search scope|Definition -- LDAP Search Scope] to define the subtree of entries that should be considered when processing the search operation. Only entries at or below the search base DN and within the scope will be considered candidates for matching against the [search filter|Definition -- LDAP Search Filter].
