h2. What's New in the Update Manager 1.0.10 Software?
* Supports updates for Solaris 8 sparc and Solaris 9 sparc and x86 Operating Systems (Solaris OS)
Update Manager support in Solaris 8 and 9 will replace Patch Manager 2.0. Users of Patch Manager 2.0 will need to upgrade to Update Manager in order to continue to be able to download and install new patches. Very soon new patch content will stop for Patch Manager 2.0 clients. There will be no support for Patch Manager 2.0 or Update Manager on Solaris 8 x86.
Update Manager on Solaris 8 and 9 has most of the features and functionality found in Update Manager on Solaris 10. The notable exceptions to this include
\* Solaris 8 and 9 clients are not supported by Sun Connection - Hosted
\* No support for the Update Manager Notification Icon in the Gnome panel for Solaris 8 or 9 due to the lack of the required version of Gnome on these platforms
\* smpatch on Solaris 8 does not support the Live Upgrade features added in Update Manager 1.0.8
* Supports Service Processor firmware updates on Sun Enterprise T5120/T5220 systems
*Note -* To take advantage of the firmware update capabilities for Sun Enterprise T5120/T5220 systems, the sysfwdownload utility must be present and executable on Solaris 10. This utility is normally pre-installed on these systems and resides in the /usr/platform/sun4v/sbin directory. If for some reason, sysfwdownload does not exist, you must retrieve and install the Sun System Firmware Download Utility 1.5 package before continuing. This package can be found by searching at [http://www.sun.com/download/]

h2. Upgrading to Version 1.0.10 (Solaris 10 only)
You can upgrade the Update Manager application to version 1.0.10 from any prior release.
To upgrade to release 1.0.10, install the appropriate patch on your system:
* For Solaris 10 OS x86 Platforms: 121119-13
* For Solaris 10 OS SPARC Platforms: 121118-13
*Note -* Patch 121453-02 is a required prerequisite for 121118 and 121454-02 is a required prerequisite patch for 121119. These patches are already preinstalled on later releases of Solaris 10 but will need to be downloaded and applied to the GA release of Solaris 10. If needed, these patches can be downloaded from [http://sunsolve.sun.com/]

h4. To Install Update Manager 1.0.10 in Solaris 10
Download and install the Update Manager client software by using the installer, the patchadd command, or the smpatch command:
\* Using the patchadd command - Download the latest version of the Sun Connection client patch from SunSolve and use the patchadd command to install it. Select either patch 121118-13 (SPARC version) or 121119-13 (x86 version), as appropriate for your system. Install the patch by using the patchadd command. Refer to the patchadd man pages for patchadd details.

\* Using the smpatch command - Use the Solaris 10 smpatch command to download the client software patch from Sun's patch server and install it. Select either patch 121118-13 (SPARC version) or 121119-13 (x86 version), as appropriate for your system. Download and install the current revision of the patch. Refer to the smpatch man pages for smpatch details.
*Note -* Patch 121453-02 is a required prerequisite for 121118 and 121454-02 is a required prerequisite patch for 121119
h4. To Install Update Manager 1.0.10 in Solaris 8 and 9
Get details about system requirements, supported operating systems, and the steps to plan for and install Update Manager at [http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hubs/connection/tasks/install.jsp].
1. Go to [http://www.sun.com/service/sunconnection/gettingstarted.jsp] and follow the instructions for Solaris 8 and 9
2. Download the appropriate bundle for the platform you require.
3. Unzip the file and follow the installation instructions in the top level README file.
*Note -* Some platforms may have an additional bundle of prerequisite patches for which it is strongly recommended that you download and install first. (currently only Solaris 8 SPARC has an associated prerequisite patch bundle). The prerequisite patch bundle also has installation instructions in a top level README file which is accessible after downloading and unzipping.
