View page history| *What is Web 2.0?* |
| Web 2.0 is a collection of approaches that reshape the role of community, technology, architecture and user experience on the Web. Community provides value to Web 2.0 sites through participation; the usefulness of a Web site is derived from the number of participants, they content they produce (text, photos, images, videos) and videos), number of connections between individuals, the classification of information with user tags (folksonomy), and more. Technology and architecture selections enable rapid development of new capabilities; pre-configured LAMP/SAMP stacks speed start-up and new development, public APIs accessible via URLs encourage data re-use and innovation, spurring innovation by re-mixing data from multiple sources and creating new capabilities (mash-ups). Rich internet applications enable online user experiences comparable to desktop based apps through the use of client-centric technologies like AJAX and Flash. |
