No, but when users make minor changes, they can check the "Minor change?" box and no notification will be sent.

No, for security reasons this is not possible (besides, wiki markup is much easier to learn and use).

wikis.sun.com is not really meant for people to keep personal documents. Unlike many blogs, wiki spaces are more topic-centric than user-centric. The wiki spaces and names should somehow represent the community you are collaborating with or the topic you are focusing on. Good examples are BigAdmin (the solaris admin community), OpenSSO (open single sign on community), SunInterns, SolarisDeveloper, SunCluster, etc.
