h3. Agent Installation Overview
Sun xVM Ops Center uses agents to take actions within operating system instances, on behalf of Sun xVM Ops Center proxies.
Three Sun xVM Ops Center agent installation methods exist: * Automated agent installation as part of the gear discovery and registration process * Automated agent installation associated with OS provisioning events * Manual agent installation
The automated agent installation methods are more often used in Sun xVM Ops Center. Sun xVM Ops Center provides the opportunity to install agents on operating system instances that you have discovered, at the time that you register those operating systems with the Sun xVM Ops Center server and Sun Inventory online service.
When you set up profiles to manage OS provisioning, Sun xVM Ops Center provides the opportunity to install agents into the operating systems that you provision.
Manually installing an agent enables you to associate an agent with a Sun xVM Ops Center proxy, but doing so does not automatically register the gear on which that agent is installed. {column} {section}
