There are three methods for discovering gear in your data center:

* [Custom Discovery|http://wikis.sun.com/display/xVM/Custom+Discovery] - Discovers gear by using IP addresses and protocols that you designate
* [Manual Discovery|http://wikis.sun.com/display/xVM/Manual+Discovery] - Discovers gear by using a discovery file that you create and upload to the Sun xVM Ops Center Gear Module

Once you discover the gear, [register your gear|http://wikis.sun.com/display/xVM/Registering+Your+Gear] with the Sun xVM modules that you want to use.
