... This Sun BluePrints™ article provides an overview of how to offload cryptographic operations onto Sun servers with CoolThreads™ technology to accelerate IBM HTTP Server (IHS) performance. Provided in Sun servers with UltraSPARC® T1, T2, or T2 Plus processors, on-chip cryptographic acceleration eliminates the need for additional co-processor cards, special licensing, network appliances, or power hungry add-on components. As a result, deploying Sun servers with CoolThreads technology in HTTP environments can help reduce system overhead, improve performance, and increase overall computing and network efficiency by improving responsiveness across the entire solution.

Daniel Edwin is a Sr. Staff Engineer in ISV Engineering at Sun. Daniel has been working with IBM software on Sun platforms for the last six years. Prior to that, Daniel worked on scaling, sizing, and tuning Web Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE platform) and Web serving applications on the Solaris platform. Currently, his interests are Java code, Java EE, Solaris OS, and processor tuning.
Dileep Kumar is a Staff Engineer in the ISV Engineering Group at Sun. With over 10 years of experience in the computer industry, Dileep now works on IBM WebSphere products on the Solaris OS. He is a co-author of the IBM Redbook titled WebSphere Application Server v6.1 on Solaris 10 (SG-247584). Dileep's area of expertise includes Java technology and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™ platform) based system design and development, performance enhancement, and implementation. He holds a M.S. degree in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara. Prior to joining Sun, Dileep worked on various software development projects at Netscape and various solution provider companies in India. Albert Leigh is a Solution Architect in the ISV Partner Sales Organization at Sun working on enterprise deployment architectures, virtualization, and system performance for customers of IBM WebSphere products on the Solaris platform. He is a co-author of the IBM Redbook titled WebSphere Application Server v6.1 on Solaris 10 (SG-247584). He holds a M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Houston. Chad Prucha has worked with cryptographic acceleration gear since 2001, and has extensive operational experience in security, virtualization, datacenter design, and telepresence disciplines. He has worked as a professional services practice lead and senior architect for several years, and has headed consolidation and optimization projects for public utilities, large-scale manufacturing, health and heavy shipping concerns. Chad makes an effort to train and certify in several competing products in order to better determine the ideal technology for solving a given problem. Relatively new to Sun, Chad works to prove and communicate the power and flexibility of Sun servers with CoolThreads technology.
