Sun xVM Ops Center provides storage resources mainly for virtual machines (guests). A guest requires storage for its operating system and general data storage such as specification of virtual machine like CPU, memory, and network. Storage is provided to the guest upon its creation.
Sun xVM Ops Center provides storage services in the form of virtual image libraries.
You can store the following images in a library:
- ISO images: The images can be of the operating system (OS) or any other software applications.
- Appliance images: Virtual appliances are pre-installed and pre-configured application with an operating system.
- Snapshots of the guest: Particular state of the guest.
Sun xVM Ops Center represents the storage access points as a virtual image library. Sun xVM Ops Center does not manage the storage capability, but instead offers NFS and CIFS services. The storage resources are accessible through the network and associated with a storage end point. Each storage end point can be associated to more than one virtual image library. Refer to the illustration for the representation of the storage end points.
Sun xVM Ops Center provides the user with a list of virtual image libraries to the Sun xVM Servers for accessing and using the storage resources. In a virtual pool, a Sun xVM Server can access all the libraries that are associated with the virtual pool.
Sun xVM Ops Center focuses mainly on managing how Sun xVM Servers are attached to the storage resources. The storage resources should be equipped with appropriate storage management tools by the system administrator. For example, the storage can be a Network Attached Storage(NAS) which should be setup properly so that it could be accessed by the Sun xVM Ops Center for storing the images.
Managing Libraries in Sun xVM Ops Center
You can manage the virtual image library and the virtual images in the library through Sun xVM Ops Center. This section describes how to use and manage the libraries.
| Content | Description |
|---|---|
| Virtual Image Library | Describes how to manage the libraries of the connected Sun xVM Servers. |
| Virtual Pools and Libraries | Describes how libraries are accessed in a virtual pool. |
| Virtual Server Images | Describes how to manage the guest or the server images in the library. |
| ISO and Appliance Images | Describes how to upload an import ISO and appliance images. |
