Managing and Monitoring Operating Systems

Sun xVM Ops Center enables you to manage and monitor the operating systems that run on systems on your network.

Before You Begin

Before using the managing and monitoring procedures described in this section, it is necessary to use Sun xVM Ops Center to discover the gear that you want to work with. Discovery is the method by which Sun xVM Ops Center becomes aware of the gear that it can subsequently manage. Gear includes operating systems and hardware (for example, service processors) that you want to manage. You only need to discover a particular piece of gear once. After it has been discovered, the gear is available for all applicable Sun xVM Ops Center operations.

In order to manage and monitor an operating system, you must first use Sun xVM Ops Center to discover the OS, and then install a Sun xVM Ops Center agent that is used to support update, management, and monitoring operations. Use the following procedures to perform these discovery and agent installation tasks:
