Discovery and Registration Discover Gear


Discovering Gear

Gear Discovery allows Sun xVM Ops Center to determine what hardware, operating systems, and virtualization tools are available to be managed.
Three discovery methods are available:

  • Automatic Discovery – Searches for gear equipped with service tags
  • Custom Discovery – Uses standard protocols such as SSH, IPMI, Telnet, and SNMP to discover gear
  • Declare Gear – Uses a manual discovery file to discover gear
Content Description
Automatic Discovery This discovery method searches for gear equipped with service tags.
Custom Discovery This discovery method uses standard protocols such as SSH, IPMI, Telnet, and SNMP.
Discovering a SPARC Enterprise M-Series Server This discovery method is required to discover the SPARC Enterprise M-series server domains and service processor.
Declare Gear This discovery method uses a manual discovery file.
