To Provision an OS on a System

You can use an OS profile to provision an OS on one or more servers. Through the wizard, you can choose various features for your installation, such as network configuration and enabling manual net boot.

Before You Begin

  • Create an OS profile appropriate for the target system.
  • Discover the service processor of the target system using the service processor's IP address. See Custom Discovery
  • Register and enable the provisioning module for the target system. See Registering Gear and Enabling Channels
  • Configure DHCP on the proxy and re-start the proxy.
    /opt/SUNWxvmoc/bin/proxyadm configure -D isc|solaris -I provisioning network interface
    /opt/SUNWxvmoc/bin/proxyadm start -w
  • Disable monitoring for servers that you plan to provision. This step is only required if you want to prevent the annoyance of events that are generated from the server reboot.
  1. From the Provisioning menu, choose Operating System.
  2. From the Provision menu, choose Provision OS.
The Provision OS wizard is displayed.
  3. Follow the steps in the wizard to specify the OS profile, to select the target systems to provision the OS, to specify the IP address of the target system and so on.
  4. Review the details in the Summary screen and click Provision.

The provisioning job is started and you can view the status of the job from the View OS Jobs menu.
