Sun xVM Ops Center has several communication requirements. The diagram below shows the requirements and data flow. For more details, see the list of ports and protocols. In addition, depending on the environment being managed, the Satellite Server might need to access a number of vendor sites to download patches or other knowledge.

List of Ports and Protocols

The following is a list of required ports.

Browser to Satellite HTTPS, TCP 9443 Web interface
Browser to Satellite HTTPS, TCP 80 Redirect to port 9443
Proxy to Satellite HTTPS, TCP 443
  • Proxy push of inventory data to server
  • Proxy pull of jobs, update, agent, and OS images
Proxy to Systems
  • FTP, TCP 21
  • SSH, TCP 22
  • Telnet, TCP 23
  • DHCP, UDP 67, 68
  • SNMP, UDP 161, 162
  • IPMI, TCP+UDP 623
  • Service Tags UDP 6481
  • Discovery
  • Bare metal provisioning
  • System management
  • Monitoring
Agent to Proxy HTTPS, TCP 21165
  • Agent push of inventory data to proxy
  • Agent pull of jobs
Agent to Proxy HTTPS, TCP 8002
  • Agent push of inventory data to proxy
  • Agent pull of jobs
OS to Proxy HTTPS, TCP 8004
  • OS provisioning completion status
  • Linux provisioning
  • Download the agent tar file after OS provisioning
  • Upload status messages to the satellite server about failed agent installations
