Sun xVM Ops Center lets you organize your gear into groups to aid in management and inventory, and use the product category and filter functions to easily locate specific gear or types of gear.

To Create and Use Groups

Groups can be used to organize gear. In addition, provisioning and update jobs can be targeted at specific groups.

  1. Click Gear.
  2. Select Create Group from the Actions menu.
  3. Type a name and description for the group.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Add gear to the group by dragging the gear onto the group.

Clicking on the group in the list on the left will display all of the group's associated gear.

To Search for Gear

The Product Types window and the Filter tool can help you locate a specific gear or type of gear.

To see all gear of a specific type, select the gear type from the Product Types window. Broad categories, such as servers, and specific categories, such as Solaris 10 operating systems, are available. A gear type will only be visible if there is at least one gear of that type.

To filter the gear, click the filter button. Select your filter criteria and enter a term, then click apply.

To Generate a Gear Report

Gear Reports provide information about registered gear, such as system ID, architecture, and registration and installation dates.

  1. Click Gear.
  2. Select Reports from the Actions menu.
  3. Select the type of report:
    • Gear Summary Report
    • Gear Detail Report
  4. Select the format for the report:
    • PDF
    • XML
    • CSV
  5. Click OK.
