A firmware profile is a template that defines how to provision one or more firmware images on a system. A firmware profile can contain any set of firmware images, except a firmware profile cannot contain two different versions of the same firmware image. You can also use a firmware profile to generate compliance reports for a set of servers.

For each firmware image included in the firmware profile, you can specify if a downgrade for the firmware should be forced if the target system has firmware at a higher version than that of the update. You can additionally specify if the firmware re-installation should be forced if the target system has the firmware at the same version as that of the upgrade.

To Create a Firmware Profile

You can create a firmware profile that you can use to provision (install) the associated firmware images on servers.

Before You Begin:

  • You must import one or more firmware images before you can create a firmware profile to install the firmware.
  • Firmware profile names can consist of up to 100 characters and may include numbers, letters, and some special symbols. The following special symbols are prohibited: comma, asterisk, single quote, double quote, parenthesis, question mark, equal sign, and newline.
  1. From the Provisioning menu, choose Firmware.
  2. From the Firmware Profiles menu, choose Create Firmware Profile.

The Create Firmware Profile wizard is displayed.

To View the Available Firmware Profiles

You can view the available firmware profiles that have already been created. Note that when creating firmware profiles, you can usually find much of the metadata for a firmware update from its corresponding README file.

  1. From the Provisioning menu, choose Firmware.
  2. From the Firmware Profiles menu, choose View Firmware Profiles.
When the Firmware Profile dashboard is displayed, the following information about the available Firmware Profiles is provided:
  • Name
  • State
  • Date Last Provisioned
  • Provisioned Host
  • Description

When the available firmware profiles are listed, the following information is provided:

  • Name
  • Description

This information enables you to view, edit, or delete the firmware profiles.

To Edit a Firmware Profile

To edit an existing firmware profile, do the following:

  1. From the Provisioning menu, choose Firmware.
  2. From the Firmware Profiles menu, choose View Firmware Profiles.
  3. Find the firmware profile you want to edit in the list and double-click on the firmware profile name. The firmware profile entry expands to a Profile Details window.
  4. Click Edit.

The Edit Firmware Profiles wizard is displayed.

To Delete a Firmware Profile

You can delete an existing firmware profile except for a firmware profile that is currently being used to provision firmware on a server.

  1. From the Provisioning menu, choose Firmware.
  2. From the Firmware Profiles menu, choose View Firmware Profiles.
  3. Find the firmware profile you want to delete in the list and double-click on the firmware profile name. The firmware profile entry expands to a Profile Details window.
