Configuration files are text files, binaries or non-RPM applications that are distributed to all managed hosts for consistent configuration. For example, configuration files of a Linux or Solaris machine determine everything about the environment: the kernel version, the bootloader, the file system, and the printers.

You can create sub categories under the parent Configuration Files and group these files for better understanding.

To Add a Configuration File
  1. Choose Manage Local Content from the Actions menu in the Update Channel window.
The Manage Local Content window appears.
  2. Choose Configuration files.
  3. Enter the path name in Target path on server.
Specify the path where the files need to be installed on the managed hosts.
  4. Enter a display version-name for the file.
The files that you add to a specific file declaration can be different versions of the same file. The Version value will be displayed in the Components list as a suffix to the file name. When you install this file on a remote host, it is installed under the full path name of the file declaration.
  5. Type a brief description of the file.
  6. Select the Distribution to which this file should be applied.
You can apply the file to multiple distributions.
  7. Select the category in Parent to upload the file.
By default, only the Configuration files category is displayed.
  8. To select the package from the Satellite, click Browse in the File option.
Select the file from the Satellite.
  9. Click Apply to upload the configuration file.
The file is uploaded onto selected distributions. Create a profile with this configuration file to create a configuration job.
