Sun xVM Ops Center 1.1 Home Updating and Patching |
You can check the compliance of your managed hosts to the newly released Solaris baselines by running the Baseline Analysis Report(BAR).
In Sun xVM Ops Center, you can generate two types of BAR report:
- Agent based BAR report
- BAR report against the Database
In agent based BAR report, a simulated job is executed against the managed hosts. This type of report takes time to complete the checks for missing dependencies, dependent components and downloading the patches that need to be installed.
In BAR report against the database, the selected baselines are broken down into individual patch IDs and formed the incidents list. No actual job is started on the agent for this report. An Incidence Compliance report is requested. The report runs on the details that are available on the database. The report takes less time as dependencies are not checked and required patches are not downloaded. Based on the report result, you need to run the compliance job. This will take more time than the agent based report, because the dependencies are not checked and the patches are not already downloaded and available on the managed host.
To Generate a Baseline Analysis Report
This report provides information on the hosts that are compliant with a baseline OS.
- Choose Reports from the Update Channel window.
- Select Run Baseline Analysis Report.
The Baseline Analysis Report wizard appears. - Click Next to specify the report parameters such as Report Name and Description.
The report name can consist of alphanumeric characters. - Select the target host from the list.
- Click Next to select the baseline or profile.
- Complete one of the following to select the baselines:
Select Baseline and the Distribution. Select the required baselines from the list.
Select Profile if you have already created a profile with the selected baselines. Select the profile from the displayed list.
To remove any selected baseline or profile, use Remove or Remove All. - Select one of the following options:
Run report against database: The report is run against the information that is available in the database for the host. The dependency checks for any patch installation are not carried out. Dependency checks are carried out only when you create a compliance job to install the patches. This report is generated faster than the report run against the host.
Run report against actual agent: A simulated job is run against the selected hosts. The dependency checks are done for all patches and resolved, and the patches are downloaded to the host. This job takes more time to complete because it resolves any dependency issues and downloads the patches. When you run a compliance job from this report result, the job is completed quickly because the patches are already downloaded. - Click Next to select the White list. Choose Text List and enter the patch IDs, or choose Import from Profile and select the profile from the list.
The white list is the list of patches that are not included in the baselines and needs to be installed on the host. - Click Next to select the Black List. Choose the option Text List and enter the patch IDs in the textbox or choose Import from Policy and select the policy from the list.
The black list is the list of patches that are included in the baselines and should not be installed while deploying the compliance job. - Click Next to schedule the report to run.
The report can be scheduled to run immediately, on a set time and date, or periodically on a set day, time, and date. - Click Next to view the summary of the selected job parameters. You can click Back to modify the parameters.
