Configuring Sun xVM Ops Center Server Software

To Register a Sun xVM Ops Center Server

This procedure describes how to register an installed Sun xVM Ops Center server with the Sun Inventory online environment. Throughout this procedure, references to the Satellite or Satellite Server within the Sun xVM Ops Center browser user interface (BUI), or wizards it presents, all relate to the Sun xVM Ops Center server instance installed on your system.

To complete this procedure, you will need the following information:

  • Name and description of the Sun xVM Ops Center server
  • Fully qualified host name of the Sun xVM Ops Center server
  • HTTP proxy information used to connect to the Internet, including:
    • HTTP proxy host name and port number
    • User name and password information if the HTTP proxy requires authentication
  • Sun Online Account (SOA) user name and password
  • Identity of the Team with which you will associate the Sun xVM Ops Center server

Before you configure the Sun xVM Ops Center server software, verify that your system can access the Sun web sites listed in the Verify Network Access to Required Sun Web Sites section of the Verifying System Resources page. Also verify that you have a valid Sun Online account as described on the Verifying Sun Online Account Access page.

The Satellite Configuration wizard described in this procedure provides the opportunity to enable the Sun xVM Ops Center proxy that is co-located with the Sun xVM Ops Center server.

Perform the following steps to register a Sun xVM Ops Center server:

  1. Launch a web browser.
  2. Connect to the following URL, and replace server with the IP address or host name of the system were the Sun xVM Ops Center server software is installed.

    https://server:9443/scportal

  3. Accept any certificates that are presented. The Sun xVM Ops Center login page displays.
  4. In the appropriate fields, enter the name and password of the root user, or equivalent role, on the system where the Sun xVM Ops Center server software is installed. The Introduction panel of the Satellite Configuration wizard displays.
  5. To display the Satellite panel of the Satellite Configuration wizard, click Next. Enter the following information in the three fields that display:
    • Satellite Name
      Enter the name that you want to use to identify this Sun xVM Ops Center server. The name that you specify here might differ from the host name of the Sun xVM Ops Center server.
    • Satellite Description
      Enter a brief description of the Sun xVM Ops Center server.
    • Satellite Network Location
      Enter the fully qualified host name of the Sun xVM Ops Center server.
  6. To display the HTTP Proxy panel of the Satellite Configuration wizard, click Next. This panel enables you to specify information about an HTTP proxy, if the Sun xVM Ops Center server requires an HTTP proxy to connect to the Internet. If the Sun xVM Ops Center server does not require an HTTP proxy to connect to the Internet, enter nothing in this panel. The four fields in this panel accept the following information:
    • Server
      Enter the host name of the system that acts as the HTTP proxy.
    • Port
      Enter the port of the HTTP proxy.
    • User
      If the proxy requires authentication, enter the user name to use.
    • Password
      If the proxy requires authentication, enter the password associated with the user name that you entered in the User field.
  7. To display the Account panel of the Satellite Configuration wizard, click Next. In this panel, you associate your Sun Online Account with a user that exists on the Sun xVM Ops Center server. The four fields in this panel accept the following information:
    • Sun Online Account User Name
      Enter the Sun Online Account user name that you want to associate with a local user on the Sun xVM Ops Center server. Typically, Sun Online Account names are expressed as email addresses.
    • Associated Local User
      Enter the name of the user with which you want to associate the Sun Online Account user that you specified in the Sun Online Account User Name field. By default, the user name that you used to log in to the Sun xVM Ops Center BUI populates this field.
    • Sun Online Account Password
      Enter the password for the Sun Online Account that you specified in the Sun Online Account User Name field.
    • Confirm Password
      Re-enter the password for the Sun Online Account that you specified in the Sun Online Account User Name field.

    To save your Sun Online Account password securely on the Sun xVM Ops Center server, select the Securely save SOA password on Satellite check box in the Account panel. Selecting this box allows Sun xVM Ops center to automatically log in using the Sun Online Account specified. If you do not select this box, you must log in to Sun xVM Ops Center twice, once for the local user account and again for the Sun Online Account.

  8. To verify your Sun Online Account information and display the Team panel, click Next. By default, the Sun Online Account that you specified in the Account panel populates the Team pull-down list. Select the team that you want to associate with this Sun xVM Ops Center server.
  9. To display the Control Proxy panel of the Satellite Configuration wizard, click Next. The Enable Local Control Proxy check box in this panel allows you to enable the Sun xVM Ops Center proxy that was automatically installed at the time you installed the Sun xVM Ops Center server. To be made operational, Sun xVM Ops Center requires at least one functioning proxy.

    If you intend to configure one or more proxies on systems other than the system on which the Sun xVM Ops Center server is installed, you typically would not enable the proxy that is co-located with the Sun xVM Ops Center server.

    If you do not intend to configure more proxies, then you must enable the co-located proxy to make this Sun xVM Ops Center instance operational.

    Select the Enable Local Control Proxy check box to enable the co-located proxy, if required for your Sun xVM Ops Center installation.

  10. To complete the Sun xVM Ops Center server registration and configuration process, click Next. The Summary panel displays.
  11. To complete the Satellite Configuration wizard, click Finish. The xVM Ops Center main page displays.
  12. To verify the connections that have been established for this Sun xVM Ops Center configuration, run the sc-console list-connections command. For example: 
    # sc-console list-connections
