Before you start to install the Operating System onto the system, make sure you have

  • downloaded the latest Tools & Driver CD/DVD. When you openend the link, go to letter 'S' and look for Sun Fire X.... and then for the latest CD/DVD Version.
    For instance for X4140 you gonna see this:

Sun Fire X4140 Server
Sun Fire X4140/X4240/X4440 Software 2.1.1
Sun Fire X4150 Tools and Drivers CD 2.0
Sun Fire X4150 Tools and Drivers DVD 2.2.0

Choose the latest DVD version 2.2.0.
Install the firmware and drivers onto your system.

  • Download also, if avaiable, the Software CD. In this case download - Sun Fire X4140/X4240/X4440 Software 2.1.1.
    Sun Fire X4140/X4240/X4440 Software 2.1.1 offers support for AMD Opteron Dual-Core and Quad-Core processors on newer versions of operating systems including Windows 2008. It also includes new tools and drivers, and the Sun Installation Assistant.
  • Apropos Sun Installation Assistant( SIA ). Consider to make use of it. SIA helps you to install Linux and Windows onto your system. NEW: Windows 2008 is supported.

The documentation offers instructions using SIA
-to install an OS,
-to upgrade system firmware,
-to recover a service processor,
-to install via PXE boot, and
-on a USB Flash Drive
-and so on, and so on.

  • And finally, take a look on the Sun Download pageand check if you do need some more software to integrate your system in your existing IT infrastructure.

Now, go back and choose your system and get installations informations.
