FAQ-100 What is Mediacast?

Mediacast is Sun's recommended space for hosting and serving any content desired to be publicly accessible, whether an image, video, audio, or executable file.

FAQ-101 Who is allowed to use Mediacast?

Mediacast can be accessed by anyone but only Sun employees and exempted users can upload content.

FAQ-102 What can I post?

There are no specific guidelines about content per se, but those who choose to use Mediacast are encouraged to read and abide by Sun's Guidelines on Public Discourse when applicable.

FAQ-201 How to report problems with Mediacast?

To report a broken link of for non-technical issues, please use the "Report an Issue" link at the top of the page in question. For technical problems, please submit a Service Desk ticket using Report a Problem -> eBusiness Applications -> mediacast.sun.com

FAQ-202 Are there any mailing lists?

Yes, but at the moment all of them are internal only - please see this page(accessible only to Sun employees).

FAQ-203 How do I request enhancements to Mediacast?

If you have a request for enhancement (RFE) for Mediacast, please report it to the Mediacast alias or a member of the Mediacast team. The engineering team will assess the request and either file it in the appropriate queue.

Using Mediacast

FAQ-300 How do I login to Mediacast?

Mediacast supports the Common Web Platform Identity (CWP ID) system, which was implemented to afford community members single sign-on access to Sun's family of community sites. To log in, simply enter your Sun.com email address and LDAP password.

FAQ-301 How do I upload files to Mediacast?

FAQ-302 How can I see all my files?

Under the "User Menu" in the left sidebar there is a link that reads, "My Media". Selecting the "My Media" link will take you to a page showing all the files you've uploaded as well as the "Edit" and "Delete" actions.

FAQ-306 How do I delete my files?

Once on the "My Media" page, click the "Delete" link located to the right of the desired file. Clicking the "Delte" link will display a prompt asking if you really want to delete the selected file. If you do, click "OK".

FAQ-307 How can I embed my files?

Embedding a file requires that you place the file extension (.mov, .mp3, etc.) in it's name.
Example of a video w/the extension defined that works fine (so the embed feature is present): http://mediacast.sun.com/users/cindo/media/TorNorbyeRubyWeblog.mov/details

FAQ-400 How often are the stats updated?

In mediacast 2.3 the cache expiration mechanism was dramatically improved and the cache will be flushed at least 2x per hour.
