Sun HPC SoftwareThe Sun HPC Software consists of two integrated software stack offerings for building, maintaining and monitoring HPC clusters featuring OpenSolaris or Linux as the base OS platform. The diagram below shows the two offerings, with the Sun HPC Software for OpenSolaris further sub-divided into developer and deployer editions. The Sun HPC Software, Linux Edition is a fully integrated HPC software solution providing all essential tools to build, manage and maintain a HPC Linux cluster. Based largely on freely available open source software, the distribution includes Sun Software for Linux HPC environments. It simplifies the deployment of HPC clusters by providing a ready-made framework of software components to use to turn a bare-metal system into a running HPC cluster. It provides software to provision, manage, and operate large scale Linux HPC clusters and serves as a foundation for optional add-ons such as schedulers and other components not included with the solution. This project was formerly known as "Giraffe". The Sun HPC Software, Developer Edition 1.0 for OpenSolaris is a full-featured HPC development environment distributed as a virtual machine (VM). The VM is pre-configured as a grid enabled, virtual HPC cluster comprised of three OpenSolaris zones. This software gives OpenSolaris developers a turn-key parallel application development environment with distributed resource management and cloud connectivity built in and ready to go: The Sun HPC Software, Deployer Edition 1.0 for OpenSolaris will be available in a future release.
