用語集の作成方法
ここでは、サンでの用語集の作り方について説明します。

用語選択のガイドライン
1 および 2 - 4 のいずれかが該当する用語を、用語集に記載する候補とします。
- SunGloss 上の既存の用語集にない (必須)
- プロジェクト固有の機能または動作の名前である
- 特殊な翻訳が必要で、それが繰り返し使用される
- 一般的な用語であるが、訳が複数あり、使用方法の特定と説明が必要である
翻訳決定のガイドライン
用語の訳を決定する際には、次の方法および基準に従います。
方法
番号は優先順位を示す。1 から順に試して、以降の「決定基準」に照らして不適切となる場合は、次の方法に進む。
- 日本語にする
- カタカナにする
- 英語にする
- 意見がまとまらない場合は、他社の用語を調べて類似性のある製品の用語から採用する
決定基準
- 技術的に誤解を与える可能性が低い
- 意味を理解しやすい
- 呼び名として簡潔である
- Sun の製品間で矛盾や不均衡がない
- スタイルガイドに従っている
参考にするサイト
各種辞書 - 英語の意味を調べる
英英辞書で英語の意味を調べる (e.g. Merriam Webstar OnLine -http://www.m-w.com/)。候補の日本語については国語辞典を使 用して意味を確認する。
各種技術用語のサイト - 用語の意味を調べる
用語の意味を調べる。ただし、ここで検出された訳を、そのまま採用するわけではない。技術用語のサイトでは、その用語の「意味」を調べて、 適切な訳を決める際の参考にする。

- デスクトップ製品の場合は、Microsoft で使用されているものを採用
- サーバー関連用語の場合は、HP で使用されているものを採用
