This is the attempt to translate OpenSolaris manual pages. Once you complete the translation, we convert them back to manpages and include them in a new build of OpenSolaris.

Working Table

Files for translation and simple how-to's are listed in Working Table page. Before you start, please read Translation Guideline, How to Translate, How to Review through the end of this page.

How to Translate

We will use CTI for translation. No need to download an application and use it on your desktop. CTI is a browser-based translation editor.

1. Register for CTI and get an account.
2. Select a manpage you want to translate from Working Table and let your contact know.

If you want to edit Working Table yourself, follow the steps below:

1. Create your wiki account from Log In link at the top right of this page, or from https://reg.sun.com/register?goto=http%3A%2F%2Fwikis.sun.com%2Fdisplay%2FHelp%2FRegistering.
2. Enter your name to Translator column in Working Table.
3. Change Status in Working Table to "Trans started (mm/dd)".
4. Change Status in Working Table to "Trans done".

How to Review

1. Register for CTI and get an account.
2. Select a manpage you want to review from Working Table and let your contact know.

How to Translate on CTI

• Source and target language segments appear side by side on CTI editor. Same translation leveraged from the past translation is already inserted to the target segments, if available.

• Translate only the blank cells. To show only the new translation, use the pull down menu called "Show me" on the top right of CTI editor.

• Please make sure to click Save before you go to another page. Otherwise, all of your edits will be lost.

Translation Guideline

• Glossary: SunGloss or JA All Product Glossary for JA.
  • Online search: Select "Solaris" and check "Always Show General Terms". Recommended - Check "Select All Product Lines" option.

• Styleguide: You can download Sun Styleguide for your language from Open Translation web site.
  • The latest Japanese styleguide for community is available in two pdf format: Quick Reference Guide and Full Context.

• Editor: The files for translation were tested and verified to work with OmegaT (You can get one from this download site), but you can use any editor that supports .po file format.

NOTE: Using translation memory tool, such as OmegaT or Poedit is highly recommended because manual pages are often updated and their source file formats will change in the future.
