if-then-else Statement

This example of an if-then-else Statement is taken from the Java Tutorial:

void applyBrakes(){
     if (isMoving) {
          currentSpeed--;
     } else {
          System.err.println("The bicycle has already stopped!");
     }
}

and another example from the same tutorial:

class IfElseDemo {
    public static void main(String[] args) {

        int testscore = 76;
        char grade;

        if (testscore >= 90) {
            grade = 'A';
        } else if (testscore >= 80) {
            grade = 'B';
        } else if (testscore >= 70) {
            grade = 'C';
        } else if (testscore >= 60) {
            grade = 'D';
        } else {
            grade = 'F';
        }
        System.out.println("Grade = " + grade);
    }
}

the output from the above example gives:

   Grade = C
