Description A general method of monitoring service availability and performance from premises remote to cloud operations.
This is a META pattern.
Alias Off Premise Monitoring
Intent This is a collection of patterns that involve monitoring of services in the cloud from a remote premise.
Motivation
  1. Observe and control cloud based services from separate remote monitoring infrastructure.
  2. Basis for monitoring multi-cloud implementation of cloud based services
  3. Provide additional level of abstraction and independence from individual cloud provider
Applicability This pattern is useful in production grade services where responsibility for service level management ultimately lies with the provider of the contracted service.

Participants
  1. Cloud Provider
  2. Remote (Off Premise) Management Service Provider
Collaboration
  1. Remote Management Service Provider:
    Polls Cloud Provider for service availability and performance
    Listens to Cloud Provider for service availability and performance events
  2. Cloud Provider:
    Sends service availability and performance events to Remote Management Service Provider.
Consequences Provides a point of observability and control to the consumer of Cloud Provider services
Implementation Standards based monitoring using existing infrastructure appropriate to the level of service contracted from the Cloud Provider
