Goal

Improve PHP developer / deployment experience within Open Solaris. This work is currently tracked within Web Stack project page in OpenSolaris

Recent Announcements:

  • PHP 5.2.11 has been integrated within OpenSolaris 2010.03 (as of Nevada build 126) . Please try out AMP stack by downloading the Open Solaris from here.  PHP 5.2.11 , currently available within Open Solaris includes the following popular extensions like
  1. Apache SAPI (pre-fork MPM)
  2. MySQL, PostgreSQL
  3. Suhosin, APC, DTrace, MCrypt

Current Task for OpenSolaris 2010.02

  • Integrate PHP with Net-Snmp, Ncurses.
  • Improve DTrace probes
  • PHP Optimization
  • Support for Sun Web Server 7

Completed Tasks:

  • PHP 5.2.6 integration within Open Solaris in in progress. A proposed pre-draft ARC (version that we sent to Open Solaris members) - document that describes what we are doing within PHP 5.2.6 to get Open Solaris community members' approval - is available from here .   • Integrate PHP 5.2.8 within Open Solaris. (Please check our recent PHP ARC draft on this upcoming work)
  • Integrate PECL / PEAR framework (Update : PECL / PEAR framework will be delivered within PHP 5.2.6 core package in OpenSolaris 2008.11release)
  • Integrate PHP 5.2.9 within OpenSolaris 2009.06. Also, deliver additional extensions like MCrypt.

Feature Requests

Now that  PHP integration has been completed within Open Solaris, work is currently in progress to identify the list of features / issues so as to improve PHP developer experience. Following are the features currently in planning / design phase for the next integration (provided in no particular order)

  1. Integrate Zend Framework 1.5
  2. Improve DTrace probes
  3. Improve APC performance / stability issues
