VDI 3.1 Documentation

Official VDI 3.1 Product Documentation

Feature Description
Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualization Platform The Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platform uses iSCSI and ZFS as a part of OpenStorage to deliver desktops sessions, similarly to the Sun VirtualBox virtualization platform.
Microsoft Remote Desktop Platform VDI 3.1 provides farms of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) hosts with load-balancing and session reconnection to deliver desktop sessions.
Template Management for VirtualBox and Hyper-V Platforms VDI 3.1 introduces the concept of template revisions for more efficient creation and testing of desktops, an Adobe Flash plug-in for desktop creation within the VDI Manager, and simplified Microsoft System Preparation tool enablement.
Maintenance Mode for VirtualBox and Hyper-V Platforms This feature is also known as "cold migration" because it allows running desktops to be suspended, while host or storage maintenance takes place, without any disruption to the desktop.
Sun VirtualBox Virtualization Platform in VDI 3.1 New features in the VirtualBox virtualization platform include: desktop suspend and resume, non-Windows desktop recycling, and simplified desktop import.
Per Pool Network Configuration Specify the subnet in which desktops will be placed for Sun VirtualBox and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
New Pool Settings RDP options used by Sun Ray sessions can now be configured on a "per pool" basis. These settings include: locale, keyboard layout, color depth, theming, redirection, and Smart Card Removal Policy.
Sun Ray Software 5 Support for Sun Desktop Access Client (Sun Ray session access on Windows-based desktops) and USB Device Redirection (access to USB devices connected to a Sun Ray DTU from Windows sessions).
Sun Service Tags VDI 3.1 delivers a single service tag that is automatically added to the service tag registry during configuration. For more details about Sun Service Tags, see the Sun Inventory Information Site.
