See the Known Problems and Workarounds page for the latest updated news about this express release.

Running the Package Installer

If you choose to install Sun Studio Express using the package installer rather than the tarfile installer, note that you can run the package installer in either interactive mode or silent mode. Running the installer in interactive mode lets you choose the installation directory and select which components of Sun Studio Express 3/09 to install. In silent mode, the installer installs all components of the product in the default installation directory.

When you run the package installer, you can specify the following options:

--javahome directory Use the JVM in the specified directory to run the installer. By default the  installer looks for a JVM in the directory specified by the JAVA_HOME environment variable and in several standard locations.
--tempdir directory Use the specified directory for extracting temporary installation data. By default the installer uses the directory specified by the TMPDIR environment variable.
--output out Redirect all output to the file out.
--verbose Use verbose output.
--locale locale Override default locale with specified locale.
--silent
Run installer silently. This option installs all components of the Sun Studio Express software and generates no output. You can use the return code or the log files in $HOME/.nbi/log to determine the status of the installation.
--help
Display help on installer options.
--record state.xml Records the states of components from the specified state file.
--silent-logs-dir directory Output silent logs to the specified directory. These logs contain information about system configuration and reasons for installation failure.
