  • RFE: Auto-move message refinements: 1. Add the moderators star next to the user name of the moderator who moved it. 2. Add a period to the end of the statement.

Forums 7.0.6: August 13, 2008

  • Provide moderator profile badges for Community and Sun Moderators. Enable both to post messages with our without the badge based on their participant and moderators roles in relation to the message topic.
  • Add "Back to Forum" link to the bottom of the screen as well.
  • Refine the recently introduced "Parent" link on messages to reflect "In reply to original post" & "In reply to #3", for example. Links lead to the post that is being replied to.
  • Modify MyForums so it shows the new messages since the users last visit.
  • Provide moderators ability to lock threads (useful for zombie threads, etc.).
  • Provide moderators a UI to move threads
  • Bug fix: Editing a message while it is locked results in an infinite login loop
  • Point side nav FAQ page to the FAQ wiki page
  • New Forums header
  • Bug fix: The filter feature looses the filter when Next is clicked

Forums 7.0.3: April 24, 2008

  • Revamp of Duke Stars messaging. Duke Stars awarded for every message is now shown along with minor changes in duke stars summary page

Forums 7.0.2: March 20, 2008

  • Plain code formatter: Allows users to post C and C++ code without highlights. Applies only to Sun Studio C and Sun Studio C++ forums for now.
  • Wiki syntax bug fix: The wiki syntax filter was showing content in brackets as a link. Now, text within brackets will only show up as a link if they have a prefix of http://, https:// or ftp://
  • RSS performance enhancement
  • Search meta data: Threads with Correct or Helpful answers will receive a higher rank in Sun search results.
  • Feeds for product pages: This one enables us syndicate forums content on Sun's product pages as appropriate.

Forums 7.0.1: Feb 28, 2008

The release primarily includes critical bug fixes and performance improvements:

  • Jive 5.5.8 upgrade: many performance and bug fixes
  • Support the use of the Sun Online Acct (CWP) employee role for establishing employee forums
  • Fixed bugs in the post form editor. Namely, the link button issue, Code button issue, RTE and PTE losing data during switches, preview appearing correctly
  • Fixed intermittent MyForums and Rewards page exceptions
  • Improved category and rss feed pages performance
  • Support of clickable links without the necessisty of the user providing HTML

This SunForums wiki space: February, 2008

This space will enable us to easily post and iterate content related to the Sun Forums site (details about a release, changes to the environment, etc.).

New (external-facing) beta production site: February, 2008

The addition of the beta production site allows us to improve our testing of new releases in an environment similar to the production site. It also allows us to stage new features for users to review and provide input back to the team - this will result in refined features that better meet the users needs.

News and Updates Forum Established: January 15, 2008
An open forum with a direct line of communication to the team that manages the SunForums site. Use this forum to ask questions and offer suggestions related to the features and functionality of the forums.sun.com site.

Bigger ticket items on the radar (deployment dates TBD)

  • RFE: Enable users to block the rendering from their own view only of posts by individual users
  • RFE: Duke fraud prevention
  • RFE: Auto archive threads that are inactive for six months
  • RFE: Improved Information Architecture (IA): The IA improvement will help us better organize the forums categorization to make them easier to navigate.
  • RFE: RFE: Message/topic counts and time-stamp features should be re-instated http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Proposed+Sun+Forums+Redesign+and+Improved+Information+Architecture (see cotton.m & jwenting comments) Sun Forums Team comment: This will introduce a single column information architecture that may be difficult to navigate now that all forums are rendered on the front page.

Known Issues

The Superscript and Subscripts are not working right at the moment. The workaround is to have a space before the markup and then it will work. Example 2 nd will fix the superscript.
