Community Moderator Selection Process

About Sun Forums Community Moderators

To help nurture the community and ensure a positive, thriving environment, the Community Moderators Program was created as part of a joint effort between the Community and Sun.

Volunteer Community Moderators are peer nominated members of the Sun Forums Community who have proven to be positive contributors and have agreed to contribute their personal time and effort to the program. They operate under the process that is defined on the Community Moderators Program wiki page which operates by the terms in the Sun Forums Code of Conduct and Terms of Use.

Who are the current moderators?

The current list of Moderators are noted on the "Moderators Team" section of the Community Moderators Program wiki page. There, you can find a brief introduction of each of the moderators as well as the timezone in which they reside.

Characteristics of a Community Moderator

  • Actively and positively engaging in conversations on the Sun Forums
  • Have been a positive contributor of the Sun Forums for more than a few months and have at least a few hundred posts
  • Passionate about conversations that occur on the Sun Forums and visit the site frequently
  • Moderator style aligns with the community-defined guidelines noted on the Community Moderators Program wiki page

What's in it for them?

It's a gratifying and good experience if you are interested in the topic of community moderation, but it's the wrong role for folks interested in power, fame, and fortune.

Community Moderator Term Duration

There is no term limit or duration obligation. Sun realizes community moderation is on a volunteer basis and greatly appreciate the time and effort the Community Moderators put into the program.

Nominating or Volunteering to become a Community Moderator

If you are interested in volunteering to be considered for the role of Community Moderator or know someone who might fit the bill, please let us know via the News and Updates forum or via the Forums Feedbacklink. Sun will review the volunteer's/nominee's contributions to the site, duration of active membership, community input regarding the volunteer/nominee, then extend an invitation to become a Community Moderator. Upon agreement to become a Community Moderator, Sun 1) points the nominee to the moderator's process & guidelines 2) grants them access to moderator features, and 3) informs the community of the newly appointed Community Moderator.
