How to Add New Content

In wikis.sun.com language, to add new content, you add a page. To add a page:

  1. Click the Add Page icon at the top right.
A new blank page appears with "New Page" as the title.
  2. Type over "New Page" with your page's title.
This text becomes part of the actual URL of the page. For example, if you type Sun Connection Inventory Channel FAQ, the URL becomes something like:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunConnection/Sun+Connection+Inventory+Channel+FAQ

  3. Type your content and wiki markup in the blank window.
Refer to the link at the bottom of the right-hand column titled "full notation guide" for wiki markup examples.
  4. Click Save.

You can use links to create stubs for new pages, then click the link to open that new page and edit it. For example, if you add the link:

[Sun Connection Release Notes|SCRelNotes]

after you save your edit, the page displays a link titled "Sun Connection Release Notes" with a green + icon , indicating a link to a page that has yet to be created.

Where to Add a Page

Where to add a page (that is, create a new page of content) depends on if the page is a parent or child. If a parent page, that is, a top level page, for example, a TOC type page, add the page as a child to the Sun Connection Inventory Channel Documentation page. If a child page, for example, a section within a chapter, navigate to the existing parent page and then add the page.

We'd like to keep all pages in a hierarchy that has the Sun Connection Technical Documentation as the top-level page.

How to Title Your Page

Please work with the writers to title your page. We want to be consistent in how pages are named to help users located information. In some cases, the writers will have already created pages for content that we know has to be provided.

How to Use Labels

Confluence enables you to label, or tag pages, with keywords, to help in categorizing information. (Mediawiki uses the term 'category." Other wikis have similar functionality.) You can add labels to pages at any time by using the Labels EDIT link at the top of the page.

We are in the process of coming up with a standardized list of labels. Stay tuned for details.

Note: It appears that you can perform complex label searches in Confluence. Though not extremely user friendly at the moment, you could type the following in the Search box:

label:( +patch?solaris) AND label:( +patch?security )

This search returns a list of all the pages tagged with both "solaris" and "patch" labels.

How to Monitor Changes to the Wiki

  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Click Start watching this space.
  • To monitor a page:
