Blogs CWP Transition

This is a collection of notes, tips, and general help regarding the transition of blogs.sun.com to the use of Common Web Platform Identity (CWP-ID) for logging in.

Overview of the Transition

For the 4.0.0.13 release of blogs.sun.com we have transitioned the application to use CWP Identity for logins rather than separate BSC specific accounts. All Sun employees have a CWP Identity account which is linked to their Sun LDAP account so there is no need for registration. The benefits of this transition are ...

  • One less username/password to remember.
  • A single account across all of Sun's community websites such as wikis, planets, mediacast.
  • No more need to 'register' to start using BSC.

FAQs

The blogs.sun.com registration link is missing. How do I register for an account.

You don't need to register because you automatically have an account as a Sun employee, intern, or temp. Simply login with your employee CWP Identity account and you will have the same access you had with your old account. You don't need to take any action, it's all done for you.

How do I reset my LDAP password?

Via netadmin on SWAN.

I'm absolutely certain that I am using my proper employee email address and password combination, but still am denied access. What should I do?

File a servicedesk ticket in the following queue letting them know that you are an employee who is attempting to login to blogs and are being denied access. Ask them to confirm that your account (provide them with the ID that you are using in the ticket) has the employee role.

Report a problem - eBusiness Applications -> CWP Identity

Before you do this login to netadmin and confirm that you are in fact using the proper email address. Some employees create simplified aliases and use that as their primary email address, but that won't work for your login.

How long does it take for sessions to time out?

Sessions currently time out after 120 minutes.

Some of the blogs of which I am a member are not shown on my Main Menu page. What do I do?

Please file a service desk ticket with the details in the following queue:

Report a problem - eBusiness Applications -> blogs.sun.com

If I have a different existing CWP Identity account can I use that instead?

No. Unfortunately the only option is to use your official Sun employee CWP account. The reason is because BSC requires users to be Sun employees to get access and the only way we know you are an employee is if you use this account.

Do I need to update my username/password in my blog client application? (Ecto, etc)

To use a blog client application you will only need to update your username to your official Sun email address. You do NOT need to put in your Sun LDAP password, instead you should continue using your old BSC password.

If your blog clients (3rd party blog editors, del.icio.us, etc.) that use the XML RPC interface are not working AND you have updated their settings with your official Sun email address as your ID, then try resetting your "Weblog Client API Password" here:https://blogs.sun.com/roller-ui/profile.rol then update your blog client password with the newly reset password.

The reason for this is a combination of security and performance. The way that the blogs web service apis work does not integrate as well with CWP Identity and so we are going to continue to maintain a separate password specifically for use with the web services and blog client applications.

I see an error "The page isn't redirecting properly.", what does that mean?

This seems to be a miscommunication between blogs.sun.com and CWP Identity about the state of your CWP session and we are looking into fixing it. The easiest fix is to logout completely and then login again.

My blog is missing some posts on the test site, uploaded files, template changes, is this a problem?

This is happening only because the blogs test site has not been refreshed since mid-July and therefore your most recent changes are not available.

Any changes you have made on blogs.sun.com will continue to be there when we do the CWP transition on the live site.

I'm guessing that BSC is not the British Sugar Corporation but Blogs.Sun.Com. However, I haven't a clue what CWP is even though it appears so many times in this page. Please could the author (or anyone else who knows for sure) introduce the Three Letter Acronym (TLA) in the commonly accepted way for TLAs. Thanks!

CWP stands for Common Web Platform. CWP-ID is most commonly used in reference to the common identity stuff but it also includes Portal and Entitlements. Basically single sign on.

I have a problem after this transition to CWP-ID. If I'm in the middle of making edits then get distracted by something else (e.g. a phone call), when I return to the session and click "Save Draft", it goes to the authentication screen; I enter my credentials, then boom... all my edits are gone. Makes for a very unproductive experience as you can imagine.

We are considering extending the timeout settings once we free ourselves from SAMS (Sept. 10th). However we need consensus from IT Security and the affected stakeholders to do this. There is a wiki with more info on this on an internal SWAN server:
