Recommended Data Collection for Sun VDI Issues

When contacting Sun Support to obtain assistance with a Sun VDI issue, it is necessary to provide a detailed problem description and a minimum set of required data - directly below are some guidelines on these topics. It will also often be necessary to collect additional data which is more specific to the problem - recommendations which will follow below.

Required Data

To best assist with an initial technical analysis of a new VDI problem report, customers should provide the following essential information:

1. Technical support requires a valid support contract for this product. Please provide support contract #, or confirmation to proceed on a "time and materials" basis.

2. A detailed problem summary of the issue being reported:

  • A clear and informative problem description.
  • Provide list of action already taken, if any, to correct the issue.
  • Report any known changes to server involved in VDI environment that may coincide with introduction of issue.
  • List any known errors and/or provide a screen capture illustrating the problem, if applicable.
  • Give steps to reproduce issue, if known.

3. Provide output of these commands from VDI server(s) to gather information about the VDI environment:

  • OS version and type of VDI server
  1. uname -a
  2. cat /etc/*release
  • VDI package and patch installation details

Solaris:

  1. pkginfo -l SUNWvda-core | grep -i version
  2. pkginfo -l SUNWuto | grep -i version
    #
  3. showrev -p

Linux:

  1. rpm -qi SUNWvda-core
  • Status and configuration of VDI services

VDI 2.0:

  1. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-service status
  2. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-webadmin status
  1. cat /etc/opt/SUNWvda/vda.conf

VDI 3.0:

  1. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-service status
  2. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-webadmin status
  3. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda-db-status
  4. svcs | grep rdpbroker
  1. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda directory show
  2. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda provider list
  3. /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda pool list
  4. cat /etc/opt/SUNWvda/vda.conf

4. Provide a compressed archive copy of the following log files from all VDI server(s):

VDI 2.0

  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/log/vdaadmin0.log
  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/log/vdaservice0.log
  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/log/webadmin0.log

VDI 3.0

  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/log/vdaadmin0.log
  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/log/webadmin0.log
  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/mysql/mysqld_safe.err
  • /var/opt/SUNWvda/mysql-cluster/*.log
  • /var/cacao/instances/default/logs/cacao.*
