Today, SAP extends to and influences more areas: With XI/PI classical middleware became part of the Netweaver stack, GRC builds a bridge to Non-SAP Identity Management and thanks to BI-A and Enterprise Search even non-SAP areas like HPC are getting in the focus of SAP Administrators and Developers. But SAP has an inmpact on decisions like the desktop OS (PAM for SAPGUI) or mailserver installations (MS/SAP DUET).
