NIC FAQs

  1. Is a Cu 10GbE card supported or soon to be supported on M-Series?
    • We only 10GbE Fibre. Copper 10GbE standards are just settling in the industry. Sun's current plans are to productize copper cards as soon as they achieve stability/interoperability within the industry.

Miscellaneous FAQs

  1. Can we boot Solaris off the IO Expansion Unit on Mx000?
    • No, boot Solaris off the IO Expansion Unit on Mx000 is not supported. The reason we don't support boot from the IO Expansion Unit is that any boot failure is unacceptably difficult to diagnose.
  2. Is the following supproted for storage access (not boot): Mx000 server --> IOU --> connected to IO Expansion Unit(PCI-E Boat) --> Rhea(SG-XPCIE2SCSIU320Z) --> StoreEdge D240 Media Tray (DVD,Tape,DISK*2EA)
    • Yes, supported. Please refer to IO Box.
  3. Can you split a single I/O expansion box on Mx000 and connect one side to one host and the other side to another host?
    • No each External IOU is designed to support one host/domain.
