Troubleshooting Issues With WEP Password Authentication

Network Auto-Magic (NWAM) recognizes two types of authentication, WEP and WPA, for connecting to a secure network. When you try to connect to a secure wireless network, NWAM prompts you to type the password. If the password is correct, your connection is authenticated by the secure network. The NWAM Manager Status Icon for the wireless connection appears. The wireless interface receives an IP address from the secure network, usually from that network's DHCP server. You can use services and applications, such browsers, to communicate with locations over the network.

When using the NWAM Manager Icon menu, you might experience connection issues with WEP authentication. If you type an incorrect WEP password, you do not receive a message or other indication that your password is incorrect. Instead, the NWAM Manager Status Icon for the wireless connection is displayed, as would happen for an authenticated connection. However, when you hover the cursor over the status icon, the status message shows an IP address of 0.0.0.0 for the wireless interface. This message indicates that the DHCP server on the secure network has not given your connection an address, thus denying your system access to the network.

Under these circumstances, the NWAM Manager waits a few seconds after your connection attempt and then prompts for a new password. Typing the password again usually clears the problem and enables you to access the secure network.
