Shutting Down a System

Most of the ways to shut down an OpenSolarisTM system include an orderly shutdown of all running processes. This controlled shutdown reduces the risk of file corruption. The last option in the following procedure explains how to shut down the system without going through the longer process. The hard shutdown should only be used if risk to the hardware is worth the potential data corruption that could result.
