How to Manually Configure a Printer by Using OpenSolaris Print Manager

Use this procedure to manually configure a new printer queue for a locally attached or network-attached printer, if for some reason, the printer is not auto-discovered by the system.

  1. From the Printer menu, choose Add Printer Queue.
The Add Printer Queue dialog box opens.
  2. To configure the new printer queue, type all the appropriate information for the printer in the dialog box.
  3. In the Connection section of the dialog box, choose the connection type from the drop-down menu.
If you are adding a local printer queue, the connection type is Local Device.
  4. For network printer queues only: Type the name or IP address of the print server.
    Note -

For local printer queues, no print server or IP address is required.

  5. In the Printer Details section of the dialog box, type all the appropriate information.
  6. To set the printer as the default, select the Set Printer as Default check box.
  7. To add the printer queue, click Add.
The new printer queue is displayed in the Queue pane of the Print Manager window.
  8. (Optional) To print a test page, click the Print Test Page button.

Perhaps add a screen capture of the Add Printer Queue dialog box.

Step 3 mentions the "Connection section of the dialog box." I don't see where that is in the preceding screen capture. I'm expecting to see a title of "Connection" somewhere. Similarly, I'm not sure where the "Printer Details section" is. I'm expecting to see a title of "Printer Details" somewhere.

Alysson, thanks for the comments. I'll be adding a graphic of the Add Printer Queue dialog to this procedure. When the figure is added, the steps will be more clear. The figure shows the Connection and Printer Details section of the dialog.
