COMSTAR Prerequisites

COMSTAR Prerequisites

Verify that your system meets the requirements for a COMSTAR storage array. Requirements might vary between supported protocols and network environments, so check the list that applies to your network carefully.

The first step is to install the SUNWstmf package. After installation, reboot the server so the stmf service will function properly.

Fibre Channel over Ethernet

COMSTAR Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) requires an x86 or SPARC Solaris host running the following:

  • Solaris Express Community Edition (SXCE), at least Build 112.

Fibre Channel

COMSTAR Fibre Channel support requires an x86 or a SPARC Solaris host running one of the following:

  • SXCE, at least Build 90.
  • At least OpenSolaris 2008.11 release.

iSCSI and iSER

  • COMSTAR iSCSI support requires an x86 or a SPARC Solaris host running SXCE, at least Build 103.
  • COMSTAR iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER) support requires an x86 or a SPARC Solaris host with an InfiniBand Host Channel Adapter (IB HCA), to use RDMA functionality. The host must also be running SXCE, at least Build 112.

SCSI RDMA Protocol (SRP)

Work in Progress

The COMSTAR SRP Target is still a work in progress. Refer to the opensolaris.org SRP project page for project status.

  • COMSTAR SRP support requires an x86 or a SPARC Solaris host with an InfiniBand Host Channel Adapter (IB HCA). The supported HCA is the Mellanox Connect-X card using the hermon driver. The host must also be running SXCE, at least Build 112.
  • Follow the installation instructions on the SRP project page on opensolaris.org. SRP is targeted to integrate into SXCE in build 116.

Looks like the SRP comments are well and truely out of date... build 116 was a long time ago.

We should get this page updated with the current truth, which includes SRP.
