Recreating CAPS 6 repository enabled NetBeans installation

There are occasions where your NetBeans 6.1 installation with CAPS 6 may become unstable, normally after installing an unsupported plug-in. It's also possible to delete key items such as the CAPS Components Library for which there is no way back. All is not lost, you can always re-install but there is a quicker way to restore your CAPS-Enabled NetBeans 6.1 IDE to the state it was in when you installed CAPS 6.

Steps to restore NetBeans IDE

  • Ensure the repository is running
  • Shutdown the NetBeans IDE if it is started (make a note of the projects you have open)
  • Move/rename the .../CAPS6/.netbeans folder (you can delete this later when you're back up and running)
  • Start the NetBeans IDE and accept the license agreement.
  • Go to Tools -> Plugins. Select the Settings tab and add a new Update Center.
  • Call the new update center CAPS Repository Update Center and set the URL to http://localhost:12000/repository/_repos_name_/data/files/InstallManager/catalog.xml. You will need to substitute repos_name with the name of your repository.

  • Go to the Available Plugins tab and install all the available plugins from the CAPS Repository Update Center source.
  • One way to identify these is to sort all the plugins by Category. Select to install all plugins from the following categories:
    • Sun Adapters
    • Sun Business Process Manager
    • Sun Enterprise Service Bus
    • Composite Page Designer
    • ...and OracleodjbcLibrary in Libraries category
  • Close and restart NetBeans.
  • Connect to the repository. You're done!

You will need to reopen the projects you had open. If you are happy with the end result, you can remove the renamed .netbeans folder you made earlier. I recommend that you make a new backup of .netbeans at this stage to make the restore process even easier next time.
