Sponsoring Information
To donate to FIRST itself, go their web page. Individual teams will have their own donation procedures, and will often have their own Tax ID as a 501(c)(3) (tax-exempt) public charity, or may be able to use their school's Tax ID. This may make your donation tax-deductible for US tax purposes.
Sun Microsystems Matching programs
Sun may be able to match donations or time volunteered by eligible Sun employees.
Matching Gifts Program
As part of Sun's matching gifts program, donations that Sun employees make to FIRST or to eligible teams can be matched (up to $1,000).
To donate to FIRST itself, you go their web page, and enter a paypal transaction. To get the Sun match, go to the Employee Matching Gifts Program. After logging in and selecting the "Matching Gifts" tab, search for Tax ID 222990908, or "INSPIRATION" in New Hampshire. IMPORTANT: For the "Type:" pop-up menu, select "U.S. Individual Matching Gifts". This will return "US FOUNDATION FOR THE INSPIRATION & RECOGNITION SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY". When you select the organization you can record your donation.
To donate to a team, find out their Tax ID (may be able to use their school's tax ID). First, search the database for that ID. You will likely have to enter the organization into the matching gifts database, which requires tax ID, addresses, and contact information. Are there simplified procedures for schools??? There may be some delay as the information is verified? In any case, after the organization is accepted you can record your donation as shown above.
Dollars for Doers
This is a pilot program that has Sun donate $100 dollars for every 25 hours that a Sun employee volunteers (for a given organization). To register, start at the same web site as the Employee Matching Gifts Program. Proceed as if you were claiming a matching gift as above, but select "Dollars for Doers" from the "Type:" pop-up menu.
We need to get more information on:
- Donating to teams - direct or via FIRST?
- Can we get SUN matching donations to teams?
- Sun sponsorship at the departmental or campus level?
- Group donations or international donations?
