Sun's Performance Testing Efforts

Drupal Performance on SSDs

11 March 2009 Sun today announces the availability of SSD drives for its server line. Eric Reid of Sun's ISV Engineering group has published a testing report showing the performance improvements SSDs can bring to Drupal users.

Sun has several projects underway around Drupal performance on Sun platforms. In addition, we're in the planning stages for several others. As always, we value Community input on our emphases, our methodologies, and any thing we might have missed.

Projects in the works

  • Performance/Scaling of Drupal 6 on UltraSPARC T2 servers (massively threaded)
  • Best practices for installing and using Drupal on Solaris
  • Tuning Drupal on Solaris, MySQL and OpenSolaris

Testing strategies

  • Defining a proper Drupal database for testing
  • Proper workload-generation tools (FYI, we're using Faban)
  • More representative workloads defined for testing
