Introduction to PostgreSQL on Solaris

PostgreSQL is bundled in Solaris since Solaris 10 6/06. Also PostgreSQL is bundled in Solaris Express and can be installed easily in OpenSolaris Developer Preview binaries.

• Solaris 10 6/06 (U2)
  • PostgreSQL 8.1.2 (32-bit)
• Solaris 10 11/06 (U3)
  • PostgreSQL 8.1.4 (32-bit)
• Solaris 10 7/07 (U4)
  • PostgreSQL 8.1.9 (32-bit) (default)
  • PostgreSQL 8.2.4 (32-bit)  ( in /usr/postgres/8.2)
• Solaris 10 (U5)

PostgreSQL and SMF

PostgreSQL has been integrated with SMF in Solaris Express Developer Edition (SXDE)and Solaris 10 8/07 or later. If you are using Solaris 10 11/06 or earlier and want to SMF enable PostgreSQL, see refer to this How-to Guide

By default, two PostgreSQL services are configured for 8.1 and 8.2 respectively. Both of these services can be enabled as long at the port numbers are different.
