Migrating Personal Address Book Directory with pab2abs.pl Utility

The tool, pab2abs.pl, was initially developed to transform the Personal Address Book (PAB) schema from Sun Java System Messenger Express to that of Sun Java System Communications Express, the unified web client introduced in Sun Java Enterprise System 2004Q2. The primary objective of pab2abs.pl is to speed up data migration, reducing the time from days or weeks to hours. The tool was previously described in a Sun BluePrint.

Sun Convergence, introduced in Communications Suite 6.0 release, employs the same schema as that of Communications Express. Thus, you can also use pap2abs.pl to migrate the PAB directory to work with Convergence.

When upgrading from Messenger Express (also known as Webmail) to Convergence, you need to migrate users' PAB entries to ABS. (This migration does not occur automatically as part of the upgrade process.) pab2abs.pl provides vast improvements in performance over batch migration with runMigrate.sh.

Consult Migrating Sun Java System Messenger Express Personal Address Book Using the pap2abs.pl Utility for details on how you can use the pab2abs.pl tool to either migrate a single or a few users, or to migrate your entire PAB database.

The pab2abs.pl tool is being made available for download, to build on and customize as needed, strictly at your own risk.
