OSUM Webinar Guide

If you're visiting this page, you've probably volunteered to deliver a webinar to the OSUM community.  First, thanks for voluneering! This page is will serve as a guide for delivering a webinar (Web Seminar) to the OSUM community.

Step 1 - Schedule Your Webinar

All webinars will be delivered using Elluminate Live!.  Once you have a set day and time, send an email to David Botterill requesting an Elluminate Live! session.  Include the webinar name in the email.

Step 2 - Create the OSUM Event

Once you've received a confirmation email with the Elluminate Live! session link, you'll need to schedule your Webinar.  Please try to schedule the Webinar at least one week out to give enough time for advertising and promotion.

If you haven't already done so, you need to join the OSUM community at http://osum.sun.com.  Once you've joined, you can schedule an event.  Make sure you are at the top level of the OSUM before you schedule the event. You can tell by looking at the right navigation bar on OSUM under "Explore" and make sure the "Current Filter:" is blank.

This will insure that all OSUM groups see the event.

Then click on the "Events" link and select "+Add an Event".  Fill out the Event information with the following information.

Name:  "OSUM Webinar: " + The name of the webinar

Event Image:  An image for the webinar.  You can use the NetBeans or the OpenSolaris images attached to this page or create your own.  The image must be square or the OSUM site will incorrectly stretch the graphic.  I find using the dimensions 125x125 px to work.

Description:  Enter a description of the webinar.  Use this description as a guideline. You can copy and paste to get the needed links. Make sure you insert your bio information and make sure you enter the timezone for the time of the Event because the OSUM site does not support timezones.

This webinar will be conducted in English.

This webinar is scheduled for <INSERT LOCAL TIME HERE> which corresponds to:

This webinar will be conducted by David Botterill, who has worked at Sun for over 9 years as a software engineer with the Sun Tools team, as a NetBeans Evangelist and is currently the Global Technology Manager for Student Developer Communities.

Practice.  Please schedule a practice session with David Botterill to run through at least one full practice session with Elluminate so you get a feel for the screen sharing for demos and also how the session recording works.  All sessions need to be recorded so students that missed the live webinar can see it via replay.  Make sure you practice the screen sharing, loading the whiteboard files of your slides, etc.
