Gartner Report- Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 'Niagara' Servers

Gartner Report: Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 'Niagara' Servers

From the opening paragraph:

Sun has come up with innovative technology in the shape of its UltraSPARC T1 processors. The T1 processors pack more cores and threads per chip than any of Sun's mainstream competitors' processors. The upshot is that, for many highly threaded applications, Sun's design outperforms x86 servers and offers significantly better performance/watt than its competitors. However, Sun's biggest challenge will be to convince customers to move from x86 servers, which account for 90 percent of the servers sold each year, to the SPARC/Solaris platform, which accounts for somewhat less.
