FAQ

Building on the industry's most open and versatile enterprise blade platform, one can now design modular solutions that are rapid to deploy, easy to scale and redeploy as business needs change. Leveraging Sun's extensive list of solution partners, this Modular Solutions Community enables IT solution developers and IT managers to explore, plan, and gain support on how to deploy highly modular IT solutions, taking full advantage of the flexibility, efficiency and cost effective Sun Blade Modular Systems.

SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (BI) Accelerator - BIA

To help you increase the query performance of your SAP Netweaver Business Intelligence solution by 10-100 times, Sun offers the solution for the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator on the Sun Blade 6000 family with Intel Xeon server modules, Sun StorageTek 6140 arrays, a shared file system, and Fibre Channel (FC) and networking switches. Built with open hardware and OS, business process management functionalities, and BI, the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator integrates easily into existing SAP environments without changing the data model.

Oracle Optimized Warehouse Solution

Sun and Oracle are delivering optimized data warehousing solutions that combine the Oracle Database with industry-leading Sun servers, Sun StorageTek arrays and the Solaris OS. These solutions include Optimized Reference Configurations and the Oracle Optimized Warehouse for Sun. The Oracle Optimized Warehouse for Sun, a pre-configured, validated solution that includes the Oracle database running on the Sun platform to provide a high-performance fast, reliable and scalable data warehouse to meet the demands of running large workloads.

Oracle's Siebel CRM on Sun

Sun and Oracle-Siebel have produced a joint solution which is the best in the world. The Sun Blade T6320 Server Module provides the highest performing and the most cost-effective business solution for Siebel CRM applications. This is achieved through a powerful combination of Oracle's Siebel CRM Release 8.0 architecture with Oracle 10g R2 database running on a 8-core / 64 threads UltraSPARC T2 processor, Sun Java System Web Server, Sun Storage and the industry leading, free and open Solaris 10 OS.

Scalent Virtual Operating Environment

Scalent Virtual Operating Environment (V/OE) software enables you to rapidly repurpose Blade servers in addition to other enterprise servers, x86 and SPARC, running various operating systems. Using Scalent software, you can transition your data center between different configurations or from bare metal to live, connected servers in five minutes or less without physical intervention or infrastructure changes. This flexibility is possible because Scalent software dynamically controls not only what software stacks are running on every server, but also each server's associated network (LAN / WAN) connectivity, storage (SAN / NAS) access, and power state.

JDA Enterprise Planning Suite

JDA Enterprise Planning Suite offers integrated merchandising as well as supply chain and revenue management planning, execution, and optimization solutions for the consumer driven supply chain and services industries. Solutions from JDA Software help manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and services companies grow their businesses with greater predictability and higher profitably. Sun Blade 6000 Modular System enables JDA Enterprise Planning Suite to be deployed and scale with ease. By supporting SPARC and x64 based server modules, JDA and Sun can deliver a fully integrated solution in a box supporting the back end Oracle database on Solaris 10 and SPARC, as well as Windows Application Servers on x64 processors.

Multi-tier application consolidation on Sun Blade Systems

With an extensive product line, customers can consolidate a broad range of datacenter applications on the cost effective and highly efficient modular architecture of the Sun Blade Systems. HPC Diskless Cluster on Sun Blade 6000

Sun's recent deployment of the Sun Constellation System at TACC shows how serious we are at HPC, and how the blade systems fits nicely in this environment. This Blade 6000 Linux diskless cluster based on x64 AMD Opteron systems is set to run HPC applications for academic research and trainning, in the Meteorology and Geophysics areas, running atmospheric simulation and numerical predictions models, with MPI libs and visualized at powerful Ultra 20 M2 workstations.

PCIe, PCI-X Card Support With Sun Blade Modular Systems

Magma has developed a 3rd party ExpressModule for the Sun Blade Modular Systems. This ExpressModule passes PCIe signals from the blade, through the midplane and out of the chassis. This signal is routed to external expansion boxes (also developed by Magma). In the expansion box, any PCIe, PCI-X card can be placed. The cards can range from X4 through X16, in both Full Height and Half Height form factors.
