Automating Unmirror and Remirror for Solaris Volume Manager VolumesNovember, 2007 This tech tip provides a script for automatically unmirroring a system before you make changes to the system and then automatically remirroring the system after you are done making changes to the system. 1. When we disable mirroring, we actually use "metadetach" to unmirror those SVM volumes. But if the mirroring is disabled by system mulfuntion, e.g. SVM module could not be loaded during booting, the OS will not even start up.
2. In this case, you need to manually mirror the "failed upgrade disk".

Hi Victor, Thanks for your response. It seems I did not phrase my question prop...Hi Victor,
Thanks for your response. It seems I did not phrase my question properly (especially the first part).
1. I understand that if the mirroring is disabled by system mulfuntion, e.g. SVM module could not be loaded during booting, the OS will not start up. What I meant was, when you run "unmirror" and the system reboots, which disk it will use to boot from (suppose you have 2 disks; disk0 & disk1)? From my observation I noticed it will use disk0 to boot from. When you run "remirror", it will attach disk1 again and sync it with disk0. Let me know if this is not the case.
2. Suppose you have two disks (disk0 & disk1) and you ran "unmirror" and rebooted the system. Based on the above observation, the system is running on disk0. If the upgrade/activity fails, my question is, how do you force the server to use disk1 (which was not affected by the activity since it was detached) to boot from instead of disk0 (which had failed the upgrade) when reboot? Once you can boot from disk1, you can them manually enable mirroring and let disk0 sync with disk1 in this case.
Thanks again for your help,
Rahim
