Virtual Appliances

Welcome to the Virtual Appliances space!

This is a collaboration space where we share and discuss ideas, best practices and code used to build, deliver and support virtual appliances and virtual machine (VM) images.

Although the bulk of the guest OS information in this space is oriented toward OpenSolaris-based appliances,  much of these resources can be readily applied to appliances built on other operating systems.

As represented in the following picture, virtual appliances and VM images can be built for a wide variety of deployment environments and use cases. Read the Introduction to Virtual Appliances if you'd like to better understand the distinctions and similarities of delivering virtual appliances and VM images into these environments.
