Quick Registration

Context

Surfing the web is stateless and anonymous activity. For social sites the user has to identify himself in order to participate in the community. The first time this is done with a Quick Registration. The following times he can simply [Log in].

Problem

Registration has to be easy because growing the community is essential.

Forces

  • Users fear for high commitment because they haven't yet established trust about the community (safety net)
  • They are reluctant to to reveal too much personal information too early.
  • Spammers and bots try to break into the system for anti-social reasons

Solution

Therefore...

  • ...
  • use defensive mechanisms like captchas to prevent bots from spamming the system.
